Plain summary: we collect what we need to run your account, your workspace, and billing, nothing more. We do not sell your data. Your formulas are private to you unless you choose to publish them. You can export or delete your data.
1. Who this covers
This policy explains how Fragrance Engine ("we", "us") handles personal information when you use the Service at fragrance-engine.com. Fragrance Engine is operated by an individual sole operator. Questions: [email protected].
2. What we collect
- Account information you give us: your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in readable form.
- Your workspace content: the formulas, accords, notes, inventory, and similar content you create or import. This is yours and is private to your account unless you publish it to the Formulary.
- Billing information: if you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We do not see or store full card numbers. We keep a customer and subscription reference and your plan status so we can run your account.
- Usage and device data: basic analytics about how the Service is used (pages, actions, approximate device and browser), collected to improve the product, plus server logs needed to operate and secure the Service.
- Messages you send us, such as a contact or support email.
3. Why we use it
- to provide your account, your workspace, and the features you use,
- to process subscriptions and prevent billing fraud,
- to operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service,
- to respond to you when you contact us,
- to meet legal obligations.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies. Some are essential: they keep you logged in and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. Others support analytics that help us understand and improve the Service. You can control cookies through your browser, though disabling essential cookies will stop parts of the Service from working.
5. Who processes data on our behalf
We use a small set of trusted service providers, who process data only to provide their service to us:
- Stripe, for payments and subscription billing,
- PostHog, for product analytics,
- an email provider, for transactional and contact messages,
- a hosting and content-delivery provider, to run and serve the Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account and workspace data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain records (for example, billing records) to meet legal or accounting obligations.
7. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access and export your data, including a JSON export of your formulas from your account,
- Correct your account information,
- Delete your account and the data tied to it,
- ask us what personal information we hold and request its deletion.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. We honor those rights and will not discriminate against you for using them. To make a request, email [email protected].
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls, and protection against common web attacks. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The Service is for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
10. International users
We operate from the United States and process data there. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your location. Where a transfer from the EU, EEA, UK, or a similar region requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an applicable adequacy decision. We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date above and, for material changes, give notice in the Service. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
